Charice Pempengco on Oprah this May

Youtube sensation Charice Pempengco, the young Pinay diva, has been wowing audiences around the world ever since she guested on the Ellen Degeneres show. From Korea to the US to London, Charice has returned to the United States as guest in the highest-rating talk show Oprah, hosted by superstar Oprah Winfrey.

This May, she will be guesting on Oprah in an episode on child prodigies.

“I have a guesting on Oprah. I already finished singing for an episode,” Charice declared. But she declined to give other details about her appearance on the show.

The young singer just came from London for her guest appearance in the British talk show titled Paul O’Grady Show last Tuesday, April 8. The format of the show is like that of David Letterman and Jay Leno. Charice once again belted her signature song “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” from the musical Dreamgirls, and once again, the 15-year-old singer mesmerized the audience with her powerful voice.

Nancy Castiglione reinvents herself as Nancy Jane

Actress, model and endorser Nancy Castiglione, has surprised the public with her makeover and reinvented herself into a recording artist and sounds like Bonnie Bailey or Kylie Minogue. And instead of using Nancy Castiglione she made it Nancy Jane for easy recall and made it sound more international. By the way, her full name is Nancy Jane Jimenez Castiglione.

Not many know that Nancy had formal training in both classical and theatrical music and was once part of a Philippine cultural dance group. During this stint, she learned how to dance the folk dances such as the tinikling, pandanggo sa ilaw, wasiwas, among others.

Her debut album entitled Nancy Jane is under Warner Music Philippines. It contains 12 tracks including compositions by Rico Blanco, Mayee Caballero, Shiela Judalena and Jingle Buena with the carrier single Love Song which recently premiered in MYX.

Ramiele Malubay eliminated from American Idol

An end of journey for our dear Ramiele Malubay, she was voted out from American Idol Wednesday night (Thursday morning in Manila) after she received the fewest votes. It was Dolly Parton night and all nine finalists sang their own versions of hits from the country legend’s songbook, she performed onstage Do I Ever Cross Your Mind?Judge Paula Abdul praised Ramiele and said, “You really had a great minute-and-thirty-seconds and you connected with the audience and you were having fun.” However, Randy Jackson, wasn’t as positive. “I wasn’t jumpin’ up and down but I wasn’t mad at you either, man. It was kinda alright,” he said as he rated the performance a six and a half out of 10.

It was also seconded by Simon Cowell that said that the performance is unforgettable. “I think it was very reminiscent of something you would see and hear on a cruise ship.”Ramiele slowly gained popularity from the competition when she sang Dusty Springfield’s You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me, she received raves across the board. Jackson dubbed the performance “classy, almost like a pro.” Abdul told Malubay that she was “a force to be reckoned with,” and Cowell told her, “Tonight, you out-sang every single person.”

“It’s not like I wanna be famous,” Ramiele, who took a break from her nursing course, mused on the AI intro video. “But I wanna represent Asian people and I wanna just live my dream.”

The hit reality show airs on QTV-11 every Wednesday and Thursday via satellite feed at 6 p.m., with one-hour replays at 8:00 pm on the same days.

Mcoy Fundales new band - Kenyo

After the splitsville of Orange & Lemons, PBB Celebrity Edition season 2 ex-housemate Mcoy Fundales is in the music world once again with its new band named Kenyo (short for Bulakenyo) with former bandmates Ace and JM del Mundo. Their debut album is entitled Radiosurfing with the carrier single “Sana“. The album is a collaboration of classic radio hits from the 80’s and 90’s.

Rivermaya starts 2008 With “Buhay” Album

The “banda ng bayan” Rivermaya jump-starts 2008 with a bang, with their first full-length studio album in five years, entitled “Buhay”.

“Buhay”, released by Warner Music Philippines, spotlights two intriguing must-listen’s - the songwriting skills of Mark Escueta, Mike Elgar and Japs Sergio as well as the vocals of brand-new, 18 year old member Jayson Fernandez (who was plucked out of a field of 500 hopefuls to become the newest brother in the Rivermaya family.) Jayson joins Mark, Mike, and Japs in delivering compelling vocals to a fresh Rivermaya sound.

The album features 16 tracks, 5 of them in Filipino. The carrier single “Sugal ng Kapalaran, ” written by Japs Sergio and featuring the vocals of both Jayson Fernandez and Sergio. “It’s about free will,” says Japs, “and having to live with the decisions, big or small, that we make in our everyday life.”
